“I was merely asked this question:’How would you feel if you ended your career with no Ferrari?’ . And frankly when you’re part of Mercedes you are a part of a household for a lifetime – giving you stay with them.
“If you take a look in Stirling Moss, then you’ve got Juan Manuel Fangio who’s still honoured within the household. You’re part of the history and they look after you.
“That is important to me personally, loyalty is a very key part.

Hamilton believes that run is just one.

“I’m sure they are only relating this to the fact I’ve won the championship the past couple of years.”
The Tifosi, ferrari supporters, is going to be out in force this weekend earlier, he believes the relationship is improving, though Hamilton has been booed on the podium.
“I think it’s grown a lot through the years but it takes a very long time to shift perception,” he explained.
“We come here and you stand on top of their podium and 90 per cent and are all Ferrari fans. We’ve come here using Mercedes at the step, and I’ve created the weekend not so great for Ferrari fans.
“However, I love and admire them a huge amount and, in actual fact, once I come here lots of Ferrari fans really ask me to visit Ferrari. And I get lots of Ferrari lovers who say,’I’m a Ferrari fan but I admire you’.
“I think that it’s growing slowly, bit by bit. But it would never be the same if I was driving for a Ferrari team.”
