After suffering a head injury from his fight from Charles Conwell at 23, american fighter Patrick Day has died aged 27 four days.
After he had been knocked out from Charles Conwell in the round on the undercard of the struggle of Oleksandr Usyk with Chazz Witherspoon day was rushed to hospital on Saturday.
He had been treated by a doctor at the ring and had been stretchered by paramedics and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
He had been in an extremely critical requirement for the next few times and on Wednesday Day lost his struggle.
Promoter Lou DiBella said in a statement:He was surrounded by his loved ones, close friends and members of his boxing group, including his mentor, his friend and trainer Joe Higgins. On behalf of Patricks family, team, and those nearest to him, we are grateful for the prayers, expressions of support and outpouring of love for Pat who have been obvious since his trauma.
Patrick Day did not need to ship. He came from a good family, he was clever, educated, had values and had additional avenues open for him to make a living. He opted knowing the risks that each and every fighter faces after he or she walks right into a boxing ring. Boxing is exactly what Pat loved to do.
It becomes quite difficult to describe or justify the risks of boxing at one time in this way. This isnt a time in which edicts or pronouncements are appropriate, or so the answers are easily obtainable.
Its, however, a time to get a call to act. While we dont have the answers we possess the ability to answer them and have the opportunity to respond responsibly and so, certainly know a number of the questions and make boxing safer. That can be a way we can honour the heritage of Pat Day.
It is the fourth boxing departure of 2019 after Russian Maxim Dadashev and Hugo Alfredo Santillan of Argentina equally lost their lives at July and Bulgarian Boris Stanchov.
