Springboks lock Eben Etzebeth may be made to depart Japan midway following the Southern African Human Rights Commission said it took him to court over a case of alleged physical and racial abuse.
The commission on Wednesday said it wouldinstitute legal proceeding against Etzebeth at an equality court on Friday – the same day Etzebeth, an integral member of this South African team, is due to play Italy at a crucial World Cup pool game from Shizuoka.
It is uncertain whether the court will probably need that Etzebeth come home to take part in proceedings. A South Africa team spokesman in Japan didnt immediately respond to messages asking clarification.
Etzebeth was accused of abusing an individual whilst on a night out during a holiday in the South African coastal town of Langebaan in August. Precisely the same night, he was also accused of attack. He has denied both allegations.
The late-night events are reported to have occurred the day before South Africas World Cup squad has been announced.
