Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has challenged Serge Aurier to make the right-back place his own after his impressive display in the win over Crystal Palace.
The Ivory Coast international played his first match of the season – and also making his first Premier League launch since February – and – given two assists in Spurs’ joint win in their new stadium.
Aurier, that has recovered from a hand injury has stated he wished to depart the club over the summer but seems to have a chance – providing he can be persistent.
“I think he was really glad,” Pochettino said of the right-back. “We’re really happy also. I believe that the performance was great.
“First half was fantastic, his focus and attention.
“Now he wants to show and be constant. It is not 1 game and the second game the focus and intensity begin to drop. That’s the key in our group, not only him but all the players.
“All the players will need to be constant and comprehend that each and every time we are going to compete we have to provide our very best.
“Give such as a collective our finest and for sure we have the quality to beat any team.”
Aurier is now in a fight with Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth for its place that is right-back, maybe not that he considers that himself based on a interview published this week.
