Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has contested Serge Aurier to make the spot his own following his impressive display in the win over Crystal Palace.
The Ivory Coast international was playing with his first game of the year – and making his first Premier League launch since February – and – provided two assists in Spurs’ biggest win at their new arena.
Aurier, who has recovered from a hand injury he said he wanted to leave the club on the summer but seems to have another opportunity – providing he is constant.
“I think he was really joyful,” Pochettino stated of the right-back. “We’re very happy also. I think that the operation was terrific.
“First half was fantastic, his focus and focus.
“He needs to reveal and be consistent. It is not only 1 game and the second game intensity and the attention begin to drop. That’s the key in our group, not just him but most of the players.
“All of the players need to be consistent and understand that each and every time we are going to compete we must provide our very best.
“Give like a collective our best and for sure we’ve got the caliber to beat any team.”
Aurier is now in a fight with Juan Foyth and Kyle Walker-Peters for the position that is right-back, maybe not that he believes that himself according to an interview published this week.
He claimed that there was”no contest” because of his place in the group, but Pochettino hasn’t seen it.
“I didn’t see those quotes,” he explained. “No, I didn’t see but you realize, if once I talk with him it is always very obvious. I didn’t see though.”
