Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira was exposed to racist abuse from Roma fans.
Italian news network ANSA noted by travelling supporters in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris that the 21-year-old was targeted with monkey chants.
I heard it but I really dont want to discuss doing it. This happens too often, it shouldnt be such a way, Vieira told Rai Sport.
The chants were observed coming during the first half, out of the away end, inhabited by around 2,000 Roma fans of the
Official Antonio Giua lasted and noticed the abuse.
Corriere dello Sport noted that a statement was made on the stadium loudspeaker warning buffs that the game will be suspended in case the chants continued.
Vieira was born in Guinea-Bissau however has represented England at youth level, having moved into the country at a young age.
Sampdoria were combined by him in 2018 out of Leeds United.
On Twitter, Roma published an apology into the 21-year-old, adding that any investigations which look to identify and punish the perpetrators will be assisted by the team.
Vieira represents racisms latest incident on day one of the season in Serie A.
