New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa will miss the remainder of the year after maintaining his second serious neck injury in the past few decades, head coach Adam Gase announced.
Before signing a four-year, $36m contract extension in December enunwa, that sat out the 2017 year because of an ailing throat missed five matches in 2018 injuries.
Even the Enunwa had just one catch for minus-4 yards in New York’s 17-16 season-opening loss.
Gase reported the Jets”found out the following day after the match” about Enunwa’s injury when he informed the group he”did not feel right after the game.”
“You eliminate a beginner, you drop a man who is a veteran player that’s been through a good deal, that has done a great deal of great things,” Gase said.
“He has done everything you could ask a guy to do. He attempts to do everything . He works hard, he analyzes, he tries to lead by example if he must and that he speaks up. How he plays, everything was violent and that he gives.
“I feel for himjust from the aspect of everything he is going through with something such as this. It’s not something that’s simple for guys who have already been doing this their whole life.”
The Jets ready for the loss of Enunwa with New England for Demaryius Thomas, who’ll combine Robby Anderson and Jamison Crowder from the group’s wide receiver positions.
New York delivered its AFC East competition a choice in exchange for Thomas, who is reunited with Gase. He spent five seasons training Thomas with the Denver Broncos, three as his position coach (2010-12) and twice since his offensive coordinator (2013-14).
Gase told reporters he expected Thomas to play Monday night from Cleveland (0-1), imagining the 31-year-old moves his physical.
As being selected in the sixth round the 2014 NFL Draft enunwa has recorded 1,617 getting yards 119 receptions and five touchdowns in 40 career games.
