Marcus Trescothick thrashed 10,236 runs for England over the three formats – and shown just how he did it in a Sky Cricket Masterclass.
The 41-year-old, who motivated 14 hundreds in his 76 Tests using a best of 219 against South Africa at The Oval, explained how playing the ball was key to his victory in cricket. Trescothick declared that he’ll retire from cricket on Thursday at the conclusion of the 2019 season.
“I was a person who was competitive, I wanted to score runs,” he explained. “I did not want to bat all day to find a hundred, I wanted to bat all day to get 170. I was hit ball see ball tried to strike it late and beneath my eyes.
“I never went to far at the ball with foot movement and normally whenever you are not receiving the contact you need, it is because you’re hitting the ball too premature ”
Trescothick, who clubbed 12 ODI countless, also spoke the secrets to enjoying spin, and activate motions, keeping your head up while batting.
“I could constantly sweep, that was always my go-to shooter, but like I played against better spinners in international cricket I had to develop and be in a position to manipulate the ball. Because the pressure builds you do not wish to get stuck in one end.
“You are able to get on one knee and then shred small faucet. Furthermore, if you come on the cover of the ballyou can nearly splat it to the floor to spend the bounce and the twist from it”
