Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham claims that his mom was left in tears after he acquired abuse on the internet.
Following missing the crucial penalty in the UEFA Super Cup defeat to Liverpool the 21-year-old has been targeted at social media.
Abraham issued a rebellious response following the match, vowing to”silence the haters”, but also has confessed his mom was affected by the abuse.
“I remember talking to my mum, she was emotional, she had been in tears,” Abraham told CNN.
“You know, she is just thinking:’He? He?’ It’s definitely not pleasant to hear seeing your son becoming abused.
“For me personally, I am always a solid character, it will not impact me much.
“But saying that, it may affect people who don’t possess my personality. It turned out to be a challenging moment for me personally, I went through a great deal of emotions.
“Everybody forgets penalties but to miss a punishment I was clearly shattered.”
Anti-racism organisation Kick Out called for action to be taken against those responsible, while Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard described the abuse as”disgusting”.
Abraham has gone on to score four occasions from the England and the Premier League global praised the service he received by Chelsea.
“Straight later, the boys, manager and everyone at Chelsea had my back,” he said.
“The next day, [Lampard] phoned me to learn how I was.
“He didn’t wish to go over the situation because he understood how I had been feeling, but only wanted to learn just how I was, so make sure I wasn’t diverted from football and my private life was right.
“It’s nice to have this support behind you when you’re going through times like this.”
